How to Use the Xyosted Autoinjector
Xyosted is a weekly subcutaneous testosterone injection delivered via a single-use, prefilled autoinjector. Administer it once every 7 days in the abdomen, at least 2 inches from the navel. Do not inject into the upper arm, thigh, or buttocks. Use at the same time each week, with or without food.[1]
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Wash hands with soap and water. Clean the injection site on the abdomen with an alcohol swab and let it dry.
- Remove the autoinjector from its pouch. Check the liquid: it should be clear and yellow, without particles or color change. Do not use if expired or damaged.
- Pull off the blue safety strip by holding the white cap. Do not touch the needle or orange needle cover.
- Hold the autoinjector like a dart at a 90-degree angle to the skin. Press firmly against the abdomen until the green indicator shows.
- Count to 5 slowly while keeping steady pressure. A click signals the injection start; do not lift until 5 seconds pass.
- Pull straight back. Confirm the green indicator is extended and the dose window shows a yellow line. If not, do not reuse—contact your doctor.
- Dispose of the used autoinjector in a puncture-proof sharps container. Do not recycle.
Prime a new autoinjector before first use: insert the yellow needle cover into the priming slot on the base, push until it stops, then pull out and dispose.[1][2]
Where and When to Inject
Inject into fatty tissue of the stomach area only, rotating sites weekly to avoid irritation. Start 4 weeks after the first dose at the recommended strength (50 mg, 75 mg, or 100 mg based on your prescription), then adjust as directed. Morning injections may align better with natural testosterone peaks.[1]
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not shake or drop the device.
- Skip rubbing the site afterward to prevent lumps.
- Never reuse or share autoinjectors—risks infection or dosing errors.
- If you miss a dose, inject as soon as possible if within 4 days; otherwise, skip and resume schedule. Do not double up.[1][2]
Storage and Handling
Keep at room temperature (68–77°F), away from heat, light, and moisture. Do not freeze. Each carton has four autoinjectors; use within 21 days of first opening the tray.[1]
What If Something Goes Wrong?
Mild site reactions (redness, itching) are common and fade quickly. Seek medical help for severe pain, swelling, signs of infection, or allergic reaction (hives, breathing issues). Overdose signs include nausea or priapism—call poison control. Women or children should avoid contact with application site.[1][2]
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice, especially if new to self-injections.
