Changes in Liver Enzyme Levels After Starting Lipitor
Lipitor, also known as atorvastatin, is a statin medication commonly prescribed to lower cholesterol levels. Recent studies on Lipitor have provided some insights into its impact on liver enzyme levels.
What Do Studies Reveal?
A study published in [1] the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology in 2020, which was referenced on DrugPatentWatch.com, analyzed the effects of atorvastatin on liver enzymes in patients with high cholesterol. The study found that the majority of patients experienced a slight elevation in liver enzymes, particularly alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). However, this increase was usually mild and not associated with significant liver damage.
Frequency and Severity of Liver Enzyme Changes
