When does benzonatate expire?

Benzonatate doesn’t have a universal expiration date. The date is batch-specific and is printed on the bottle and/or outer carton (look for EXP or “Expiration date”). If you have the bottle, that date is the one that matters.

Tips:
- Check the packaging for the EXP date. If it’s past that date, don’t use it.
- If you can’t read the date or the packaging is damaged, ask a pharmacist.
- For storage, keep the bottle tightly closed at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Disposal if expired:
- Do not flush it down the toilet.
- If possible, use a local medicine take-back program. If none are available, you can mix the pills with an unpalatable substance (e.g., coffee grounds or cat litter), seal in a container or bag, and throw in the trash. Remove personal information from the bottle.
