For most people, moderate social drinking does not have a well-established interaction with ezetimibe. Ezetimibe lowers cholesterol by reducing absorption in the intestine, and it is generally not known for alcohol-related safety problems the way some other cholesterol drugs can be. Still, keep a few safety issues in mind: - Avoid heavy or binge drinking. If alcohol affects your liver, that can matter because cholesterol medications can be monitored for liver effects. - If you drink and you have any symptoms such as unusual fatigue, dark urine, yellowing of the skin/eyes, or persistent nausea, stop drinking and contact a clinician.
If you have liver disease or you take other medicines that can affect the liver, be more cautious with alcohol and ask your prescriber or pharmacist what “social drinking” means for you specifically. Your clinician can advise based on your overall liver risk and the rest of your medication list.
There is no common rule that ezetimibe changes blood alcohol levels or makes alcohol hit harder. The main issue tends to be general safety (amount of alcohol, your health conditions) rather than a direct drug-drug interaction.
