What blood-pressure (BP) changes are reported after Lipitor (atorvastatin)?

Some studies have found small BP-lowering effects with statins (including atorvastatin), but the changes are usually modest and not consistent enough to expect dramatic BP shifts in an individual patient. If you noticed BP changes after starting Lipitor, it could be real, but it also may reflect normal variation or other factors.
What side effects or interactions could affect BP readings?
Lipitor can cause side effects (for example, muscle symptoms, liver enzyme changes, or rarely more serious reactions) that could indirectly affect someone’s BP—for example, through discomfort, dehydration, or changes in activity—but these aren’t common and aren’t a typical pattern of BP elevation or hypotension. Also, BP can change if you started or stopped other drugs around the same time (antihypertensives, diuretics, NSAIDs, decongestants, steroids, etc.).
When should you treat BP changes after Lipitor as urgent?
If BP changes come with symptoms such as chest pain, severe headache, shortness of breath, weakness on one side, fainting, or if readings are very high (for example, around or above 180/120) or very low with dizziness or lightheadedness, you should seek urgent medical care.

The most reliable way to judge causality is to compare BP readings taken consistently (same cuff, same time of day, seated and rested, no caffeine/exercise right before). Look at averages over time before and after starting Lipitor and note any changes in other meds, diet, or adherence.
