Adults and Children 12 Years and Older
Take 4 mg (2 caplets, capsules, or 1-2 tablets) after the first loose stool. Follow with 2 mg (1 caplet, capsule, or tablet) after each loose stool. Maximum: 8 mg per day for first day; 16 mg per day on subsequent days. Stop when diarrhea resolves.[1]
Children 6-11 Years
Take 2 mg (1 caplet or capsule) after first loose stool, then 1 mg after each loose stool. Maximum: 4 mg per day. Use only if prescribed by a doctor.[1]
Children Under 6 Years
Do not use without doctor advice.[1]
Acute Diarrhea with Fever or Blood
Do not use Imodium; see a doctor immediately.[1]
Chronic Diarrhea
Start with 4 mg, then 2 mg after each loose stool until one dry stool. Adjust daily dose to avoid more than 2 loose stools. Maximum: 16 mg per day. Consult a doctor for ongoing use.[1]
Maximum Duration
Do not use longer than 2 days without medical advice.[1]
