Repatha (evolocumab) is used to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol in certain people, including those with familial hypercholesterolemia and people at high risk of cardiovascular problems. [1]
It is commonly prescribed when LDL cholesterol remains too high despite other cholesterol-lowering therapy, or when patients have genetic high-cholesterol conditions such as familial hypercholesterolemia. [1]
For some patients at higher cardiovascular risk, lowering LDL cholesterol with Repatha is used as part of preventing future cardiovascular events (for example, heart attack or stroke), based on its cholesterol-lowering role in that risk setting. [1]
Repatha is usually used along with other lipid-lowering treatments (such as statins, when appropriate) when LDL levels are not controlled enough. [1]
