What is Tepezza?
Tepezza, also known as teprotumumab, is a monoclonal antibody treatment developed by Horizon Therapeutics [1]. It was initially approved by the FDA in January 2020 for the treatment of Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy (TAO), a condition also known as Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) [2].
How does Tepezza work?
TAO or TED is an autoimmune disease that affects the tissues around the eye in people with hyperthyroidism or Graves' disease. Tepezza targets and blocks the IGFR1 receptor, which plays a key role in the development of TAO/TED [3]. By inhibiting this receptor, Tepezza reduces the inflammation and swelling that occur in the eye muscles, eyelids, and other tissues.
Effectiveness of Tepezza in treating TED
Clinical studies have demonstrated that Tepezza effectively reduces the signs and symptoms of TAO/TED in patients with Graves' disease. These studies have shown significant improvements in the orbital measurements, eyelid swelling, and eye movement in patients treated with Tepezza [4].
Patent status

Side effects and safety concerns

Is Tepezza the only treatment option for TED?
