When will generic saxenda be available?

As of today, there is no generic Saxenda available.

- Saxenda is liraglutide at a 3 mg dose for weight management, and it’s a biologic. Generics aren’t available for biologics; the closest equivalent is a biosimilar, which requires separate FDA approval and often takes longer to enter the market.
- The earliest possible time for a liraglutide biosimilar in the U.S. would be around 2026 (12 years after Saxenda’s 2014 approval, due to data exclusivity), but actual timing is uncertain and could be later because of patents, litigation, and regulatory hurdles.
