How to Take Cosentyx
Cosentyx (secukinumab) can be taken with or without food. Food does not affect its absorption.[1]
Available Forms and Dosing
Cosentyx comes as a prefilled syringe, autoinjector, or powder for reconstitution. Standard adult dose for plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis is 300 mg (two 150 mg injections) at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, then every 4 weeks. Inject subcutaneously in the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. Rotate sites to avoid irritation.[1][2]
Storage and Preparation Tips
Store in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (36-46°F). Let it reach room temperature for 15-30 minutes before injecting. Do not shake or freeze. For the powder form, reconstitute with sterile water as directed.[1]
Common Side Effects Patients Report
Upper respiratory infections, diarrhea, and injection site reactions occur in over 10% of users. Monitor for serious risks like infections or inflammatory bowel disease worsening. Consult a doctor if symptoms appear.[2]
Who Should Avoid It
