Tapazole is a brand of methimazole, which is used to treat conditions caused by an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Common uses include:
- Graves’ disease (the most common cause of hyperthyroidism)
- Other causes of hyperthyroidism, including toxic multinodular goiter and toxic adenoma (depending on the clinician’s assessment)

It can also be used before thyroid surgery to help bring thyroid hormone levels under control, and in some cases as part of longer-term management to reduce hyperthyroid activity.
