How to Use the Rebif RebiDose Device
Rebif RebiDose is a prefilled autoinjector for subcutaneous Rebif (interferon beta-1a) injections, used to treat relapsing multiple sclerosis. It delivers 22 mcg or 44 mcg doses three times weekly. Always follow your doctor's instructions and the official prescribing information.[1]
Step-by-Step Injection Guide
- Wash hands and clean the injection site (abdomen, back of upper arms, buttocks, or thighs) with alcohol. Rotate sites to avoid irritation.
- Remove the device from refrigeration 30 minutes before use to reach room temperature. Do not shake.
- Peel off the cap. Inspect the liquid—it should be clear and colorless. Discard if cloudy or discolored.
- Hold the device upright (gray tip up). Press the gray tip firmly against skin at a 90-degree angle until it clicks (needle inserts).
- Count to 10 slowly while pressing steadily—the yellow plunger moves to indicate delivery.
- Release pressure; the needle retracts automatically. Dispose of the used device in a sharps container.
Each device is single-use only.[1][2]
Where to Inject and Site Rotation
Inject into fatty areas: outer upper arms, abdomen (at least 2 inches from navel), upper buttocks, or front thighs. Avoid scarred, bruised, or irritated skin. Change sites by at least 1 inch each time to reduce injection-site reactions like redness or pain.[1]
Storage Before Use
Keep refrigerated at 36-46°F (2-8°C) in original carton. Protect from light. Do not freeze. If unrefrigerated >30 minutes (up to 24 hours at <77°F/25°C), discard.[1]
What If Something Goes Wrong?
- No click or partial dose: Do not reuse—discard and use a new device.
- Accidental activation: Do not recap; dispose safely.
- Severe reactions: Stop and contact your doctor. Common issues include flu-like symptoms or skin reactions, manageable with pain relievers or site prep.[1][2]
Tips from Patients and Providers
Apply ice before/after to numb skin. Inject at consistent times (e.g., evening) to minimize side effects. Track doses in a log or app. Training videos are available from EMD Serono.[2]
