Generic for glimepiride?

Glimepiride is already the generic name. The brand-name version is Amaryl. Generic glimepiride is manufactured by many companies and is available as tablets in common strengths of 1 mg, 2 mg, and 4 mg.

Typical dosing (for type 2 diabetes)
- Start: 1 mg once daily with the first meal.
- Titrate: increase by 1 mg every 1–2 weeks as needed.
- Common max: up to 8 mg per day (some regimens may use 4–6 mg daily).

Tips
- Take with food to help with absorption and GI comfort.
- Watch for signs of hypoglycemia (shakiness, sweating, confusion) and have a plan if you’re at risk.
- Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
