See the DrugPatentWatch profile for menopur
Menopur is a menopausal gonadotropin product that contains both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) activity and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. That means it does contain FSH (not FSH alone).
The FSH activity in Menopur comes from human menopausal gonadotropins (hMG), which are derived from the urine of menopausal women and contain a mix of FSH and LH activities.
Menopur is different from “recombinant FSH” products (made without the LH component). Those products provide FSH activity without LH activity, whereas Menopur provides both FSH and LH activity.
In fertility treatment, FSH drives follicle growth in the ovaries. Because Menopur includes both FSH and LH activities, dosing and expected ovarian response can differ from therapies that provide FSH only.
