How does Darzalex Faspro work (mechanism of action)?

Darzalex Faspro (daratumumab and hyaluronidase-fihj) is an anti-CD38 therapy. It targets CD38, a protein found at high levels on multiple myeloma cells. Binding to CD38 helps kill cancer cells through several immune-mediated effects, including antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), along with other mechanisms that can directly or indirectly reduce tumor cell survival.

What does “daratumumab” do to CD38-expressing myeloma cells?

Daratumumab is a monoclonal antibody designed to recognize and bind CD38 on the surface of myeloma cells. After it attaches to CD38, the antibody can recruit parts of the immune system to attack the tumor cells (for example, by promoting ADCC) and can also trigger complement activation (CDC) in susceptible settings. These processes together reduce the number of malignant plasma cells.

Why is hyaluronidase added in Darzalex Faspro?
