* Remove the pen cap by twisting it off in a counter-clockwise direction.
* Before your first use, pull the red guard away from the needle and discard it (you will have two red guards per pen).

* Place the pen against the skin at a 90-degree angle with the needle touching the skin. Gently push the skin away from the needle to form a fold.
* Hold the skin fold in place with your fingers or a skin fold holder.
* Keep the pen in place for 15 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered to the skin.
* Check to see if the needle is still pointing towards the skin. If it is, the shot is complete.

* Once the dose has been administered, remove the pen from the skin and throw it away in a sharps container (do not recap the pen).
