Can Cosentyx (secukinumab) change a person’s menstrual cycle?
Cosentyx (secukinumab) is not known as a common cause of menstrual-cycle changes in the way hormones-based treatments can be. In practice, any reports of missed periods, irregular bleeding, or changes in flow are more often linked to the underlying inflammatory condition (such as psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis) and stress on the body, rather than a direct, well-established drug effect.
Why might someone notice period changes while on Cosentyx?
People using Cosentyx often have inflammatory diseases that can affect reproductive hormones and cycle regularity. Active inflammation, weight change, sleep disruption, and overall illness severity can all influence menstrual regularity. Because of that, timing symptoms to when a dose is started or changed does not always prove the medication is the cause.
What bleeding changes should be taken seriously?
Seek urgent medical advice if you have any of the following:
- Very heavy bleeding (for example, soaking pads/tampons quickly for several hours)
- Bleeding with severe pelvic pain, dizziness, fainting, or fever
- Bleeding after pregnancy, or a concern for pregnancy
