Recommended Starting Dose for Zepbound
Zepbound (tirzepatide) starts at 2.5 mg injected subcutaneously once weekly for weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related conditions.[1] This initial dose lasts for 4 weeks to minimize gastrointestinal side effects like nausea.
How Dosing Escalates
After 4 weeks on 2.5 mg, the dose increases to 5 mg weekly. Further titration occurs every 4 weeks based on tolerance and response: 7.5 mg, then 10 mg, up to a maintenance dose of 15 mg weekly. Patients stay on the highest tolerated dose.[1]
Available Strengths and Administration
Zepbound pens come in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg per 0.5 mL dose. Inject into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating sites. Use on the same day each week, with or without food.[1]
Who Should Use This Dosing
Prescribed for chronic weight management alongside diet and exercise. Not for type 1 diabetes or under 18. Doctors adjust based on side effects or inadequate response.[1]
Common Side Effects at Starting Dose
Nausea (up to 25%), diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain peak early but often improve with time. Starting low reduces these risks.[1]
