Less common reactions involve allergic responses, especially in people allergic to shellfish (since many glucosamine products derive from shrimp or crab shells). Symptoms can include rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulties. How Glucosamine Compares to Chondroitin
Often paired with chondroitin, glucosamine alone shows similar mild GI effects. Combined use doesn't significantly worsen side effects but may amplify nausea in some.[1][3] Both are better tolerated than NSAIDs like ibuprofen, which carry stomach ulcer risks.[5]
