Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is FDA-approved for ADHD and for binge eating disorder in adults. It’s sometimes used off-label for other conditions, but the evidence is variable and it carries risks. Any off-label use should be under close medical supervision.

- Weight management in obesity (outside of binge eating disorder). Not an approved use for weight loss; evidence is limited and safety concerns exist.

- Vyvanse is a Schedule II controlled substance with potential for misuse, dependence, and withdrawal.
- Possible side effects: insomnia, anxiety, increased heart rate and blood pressure, headache, dry mouth, loss of appetite, stomach upset, mood changes.
- Contraindications and cautions: cardiovascular disease or significant risk factors, uncontrolled hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, history of substance use disorder, severe anxiety or agitation, and concurrent use with MAO inhibitors (or within a couple of weeks of stopping them).
- Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals: discuss with a clinician.
