How to Apply Sancuso
Sancuso is a transdermal patch that delivers granisetron to prevent nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. Apply one 3.1 mg/24 hour patch to clean, dry, intact skin on the upper outer arm. Do not cut the patch. Press firmly for 30 seconds to ensure adhesion. Apply 24 hours to 1 hour before chemotherapy starts. Leave on for up to 7 days or until 24 hours after chemotherapy ends, whichever comes first. Remove and fold in half with sticky sides together for disposal.
When and Where to Place It
Place on the upper outer arm, avoiding cuts, scars, or irritated skin. Choose a spot without lotions, oils, or powders. If the patch loosens, cover with a bandage but don't use adhesives directly on it. Only use one patch at a time.
What If the Patch Falls Off or Doesn't Stick
If it detaches before 24 hours post-chemo, apply a new one on a different arm site. Don't reapply the same patch.
Removing and Aftercare
Peel off slowly. Skin may redden temporarily; it usually fades. Wash site with soap and water if needed. Dispose of used patches out of children's reach.
Dosage for Different Chemo Schedules
One patch per cycle for multi-day chemotherapy (up to 7 days). For single-day chemo, remove after 24 hours post-treatment.
Side Effects Patients Report
Common: constipation, headache, fatigue. Serious (rare): allergic reactions, fever. Watch for patch-site reactions like itching or blisters. Contact doctor if severe.
Who Shouldn't Use Sancuso
Avoid if allergic to granisetron or patch components. Use caution with heart rhythm issues or in pregnancy/breastfeeding—consult doctor.
