What is Nplate, and who makes it?

Nplate is the brand name for romiplostim, a medicine used for certain blood-clotting (platelet) problems. It is made by Amgen. [1]

What does Nplate treat?

Nplate is used to treat immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in adults and children aged 1 year and older who have had an insufficient response to other treatments. [1]

How does Nplate work?

Nplate is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist. It helps stimulate platelet production by activating the thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor on cells involved in making platelets. [1]

Is Nplate the same as other “TPO” medicines?

Nplate’s active ingredient is romiplostim. It is different from other thrombopoietin-receptor–related medicines that may be used for ITP, such as eltrombopag (which has a different active ingredient and formulation). [1]

Is Nplate only for adults?

No. Nplate is indicated for children aged 1 year and older as well as adults, for the specified ITP population. [1]
