Doses per Nayzilam Nasal Spray Unit
Each Nayzilam (midazolam) nasal spray device contains one dose of 5 mg/0.1 mL solution for intranasal use. It is a single-use, prefilled sprayer designed for one-time administration during seizure clusters.[1]
How Nayzilam Is Prescribed and Dispensed
Nayzilam comes in cartons with two separate single-dose devices, providing two doses total per pack. Prescriptions are typically written for a starter pack (two doses) or refill packs (also two doses each). Patients are instructed to use one device per seizure episode and discard it after spraying.[1][2]
Proper Use and What Happens After One Dose
Hold the device upright, insert the tip into one nostril, and press the plunger firmly to deliver the full 5 mg dose. Do not test or prime the sprayer. If a second dose is needed 10 minutes later (for ongoing seizure activity), use the second device in the other nostril. Each sprayer cannot be reused or divided.[2][3]
Storage and Expiration After Opening
Store unopened devices at room temperature. Once used, discard immediately—there's no way to save partial doses. Shelf life is 3 years from manufacture, but check the expiration date on the carton.[2]
Availability and Pricing for Packs
Nayzilam is available only by prescription. A two-dose carton costs around $800-$900 without insurance, though patient assistance programs from manufacturer UCB can reduce this.4
