Standard Storage for Unopened Omnitrope
Unopened Omnitrope pens and cartridges stay stable at refrigerated temperatures of 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze them, as freezing damages the medication.[1]
Storage After First Use
Once opened or in use, Omnitrope pens can be kept at room temperature up to 77°F (25°C) for up to 21 days. Return to refrigeration if storing below that. Discard after 21 days, even if solution remains.[1][2]
Cartridge-Specific Rules
For cartridges inserted into the Omnitrope Pen 5 or 10, store in the refrigerator before first puncture. After puncture, keep at room temperature for up to 28 days maximum. Protect from light by keeping in the original carton.[1]
Travel and Handling Tips
During travel, Omnitrope can handle up to 72 hours at up to 86°F (30°C) without losing potency. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources. Always check the expiration date and do not use if discolored or containing particles.[2]
Why These Conditions Matter
Omnitrope is a sensitive biologic (somatropin, a human growth hormone). Improper storage can degrade its structure, reducing effectiveness for growth hormone deficiency treatment. Patients report vial or pen cloudiness as a common discard sign.[3]
