How the Lipitor Savings Card Works
Pfizer's Lipitor Savings Card reduces out-of-pocket copays for eligible patients on commercial insurance. It covers atorvastatin (generic Lipitor) in 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, and 80mg strengths. Patients pay as little as $4 per 30-day supply (up to 90-day fills prorated), regardless of original copay amount.[1]
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have commercial prescription insurance (not government plans like Medicare, Medicaid, or VA).
- No prior authorization needed for the card itself.
- Applies only to the brand-name Lipitor; generic versions may not qualify, though some cards extend to authorized generics.
- One card per patient; household limits may apply.
Maximum Savings and Copay Caps
The card guarantees a maximum copay of $4 per fill after applying the discount, but total savings depend on your original copay:
| Original Copay | Savings with Card | Final Patient Cost |
|----------------|-------------------|--------------------|
| $10 | $6 | $4 |
| $25 | $21 | $4 |
| $50 | $46 | $4 |
| $100+ | $96+ | $4 |
Pfizer covers the difference up to $100 per fill (annual max $1,200 per patient).[1][2] For 90-day supplies, the $4 scales to $12.
How to Get and Activate the Card
Download from lipitor.com/savings-card or text SAVE to 21000. Activate online or by phone (1-844-623-9672). Show it at the pharmacy alongside your prescription. Expires after 12 fills or 1 year; renew online.[1]
Limitations and Common Issues
- Doesn't stack with other discounts or coupons.
- Not valid at all pharmacies (e.g., works at CVS, Walgreens, but check BIN/PCN numbers).
- If copay is under $4, no additional savings.
- Generic atorvastatin often costs $4-10 without insurance anyway, so card value drops for low-copay plans.[3]
