Theophylline uses?

Theophylline is a methylxanthine bronchodilator. Its main uses are:

- Adjunct bronchodilator in chronic asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) when other therapies aren’t enough or aren’t tolerated.
- Respiratory stimulant for apnea of prematurity in neonates (though caffeine citrate is now preferred).

Notes:
- It has a narrow therapeutic index and many drug interactions, so monitoring levels is important.
- It’s less commonly used today as first-line therapy due to better inhaled therapies and potential side effects.
