Will Entresto lower heart rate?
Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan) is used for heart failure. It is mainly intended to improve heart failure outcomes by changing how blood vessels and the body’s hormone system work. It does not typically target heart rate directly, so it is not generally described as a medication that reliably lowers heart rate on its own.
How does Entresto affect heart rate compared with other heart-failure drugs?
Entresto can cause lower blood pressure and may improve cardiac function over time, which can indirectly make heart rate trends better in some people. But heart-rate lowering is more commonly the job of other heart-failure/heart-rate–focused medications such as:
- beta blockers (for example, metoprolol, carvedilol)
- ivabradine (for selected patients)
Those drugs more directly reduce heart rate than Entresto does.
What could patients notice in practice?
Some people taking Entresto may experience:
- slower pulse if their heart failure improves and their body needs less compensation
- no change (or occasional variability), because Entresto is not a primary heart-rate–lowering drug
If a person has a very fast heart rate, clinicians usually look first at causes (like arrhythmias, infection, anemia) and at whether a heart-rate–controlling medication is needed alongside Entresto.
When to call a clinician urgently
Seek urgent medical advice if heart rate is accompanied by symptoms such as chest pain, fainting, severe dizziness, worsening shortness of breath, or signs of very low blood pressure.
