Does Lipitor change how alcohol affects blood pressure?

Lipitor lowers LDL cholesterol but does not directly alter alcohol’s immediate blood-pressure-raising effect. Alcohol still causes short-term spikes in blood pressure regardless of statin use.

What happens when you combine the two?

Alcohol increases heart rate and constricts blood vessels. Lipitor slows cholesterol buildup in arteries, but it does not block alcohol’s acute vasoconstriction or fluid-retention effects. Patients can therefore see the same temporary rise in readings after drinking whether or not they take the statin.
