Standard Dosing for Eczema
Dupixent (dupilumab) treats moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 6 months and older. It's given as a subcutaneous injection under the skin, typically in the thigh or abdomen. A healthcare provider administers the first dose; after training, patients or caregivers can self-inject at home using pre-filled syringes or pens.[1][2]
How to Administer the Injection
Inject into clean, dry skin, avoiding tender areas, scars, or 2 inches around the navel. Rotate sites between injections. For syringes, draw air into the syringe, insert needle at 45-degree angle, inject slowly, then withdraw. Pens auto-inject with a click. Full instructions come in the prescribing information; training is required.[2][3]
Initial and Maintenance Schedule
- Adults and kids 12+ (weight ≥60 kg): 600 mg (two 300 mg injections) at week 0, then 300 mg every 2 weeks.
- Kids 6-11 years (15-30 kg): 200 mg every 2 weeks after 600 mg loading dose.
- Kids 6 months-5 years (5-29.9 kg): Weight-based, e.g., 200-300 mg every 4 weeks after loading.
Doses adjust by age and weight; follow prescriber's plan.[2]
What If I Miss a Dose?
Inject as soon as possible, then resume schedule. If nearly time for next dose, skip the missed one—do not double up.[3]
Storage and Handling
Keep refrigerated at 36-46°F (2-8°C) in original carton. Can stay at room temperature up to 30°C for 14 days. Discard if expired, discolored, or past use-by after first puncture.[2]
Common Injection Site Reactions
Redness, swelling, itching, or pain at site affect about 10-20% of patients, usually mild and short-lived. Bruising or infection is rarer; report persistent issues to a doctor.[1][4]
