Recommended Dosing for Flonase in Adults
Flonase (fluticasone propionate nasal spray) treats allergic rhinitis. For adults and children 12 years and older, the starting dose is 2 sprays in each nostril once daily (total 200 mcg/day). After initial symptom control, reduce to 1 spray in each nostril once daily (100 mcg/day). Maximum is 2 sprays per nostril daily.[1]
Dosing for Children
Children 4-11 years: 1 spray in each nostril once daily (100 mcg/day). Do not exceed this. Not approved for under 4 years.[1]
How to Prime and Use Flonase
Shake gently. Prime before first use by spraying 6 times away from face until fine mist appears. If unused 7+ days or nozzle clogged, prime 2 sprays. Blow nose, tilt head forward, insert nozzle, spray while breathing in gently, avoid eyes. Use same time daily.[1]
Missed Dose Instructions
Take as soon as remembered unless near next dose. Skip if close—do not double up.[1]
What Happens with Overdose
Overdose is unlikely from nasal use. Symptoms may include eye effects or adrenal suppression at high doses. Seek medical help if concerned.[1]
Dosing Changes for Liver Issues or Pregnancy
No adjustments for mild liver problems; use caution with moderate/severe. Pregnancy category C—use only if benefits outweigh risks. Lactation data limited.[1]
How Flonase Differs from Flonase Sensimist
Flonase Sensimist uses fluticasone furoate (not propionate). Adult dosing: 2 sprays each nostril once daily, reduce to 1 after control. No priming needed, gentler mist. Not interchangeable.2
