SSRIs such as sertraline, fluoxetine, and escitalopram, along with SNRIs like venlafaxine, increase bleeding risk when taken with ibuprofen. The interaction is milder with older tricyclic antidepressants or bupropion. Doctors often advise patients on SSRIs or SNRIs to limit or skip ibuprofen and use acetaminophen instead.

SSRIs block platelet uptake of serotonin, making clots form more slowly. Ibuprofen blocks COX-1 enzymes that help platelets stick together.
