Can I take Lyrica (pregabalin) with amoxicillin 500?
In general, Lyrica (pregabalin) and amoxicillin 500 mg can usually be taken together because they don’t have a known direct drug–drug interaction in standard prescribing information. There’s no common interaction that would require stopping one when starting the other.
What should I watch for?
Even when two medicines are commonly used together, you still want to monitor for side effects that could overlap or be mistaken for each other.
With amoxicillin, watch for:
- Rash, itching, or swelling (possible allergy)
- Severe diarrhea or watery/bloody stool
- Nausea or stomach upset
With Lyrica, watch for:
- Drowsiness, dizziness
- Sleepiness or unsteadiness
- Swelling in the legs/feet
If you feel much more sleepy or dizzy than usual after starting either medicine, avoid driving and contact your clinician.
What if I’m taking other medicines too?
The “safe to combine” answer can change depending on your full medication list, especially if you also take:
- Other medicines that cause drowsiness (opioids, some sleep/anxiety medicines, antihistamines)
- Medicines that affect kidney function
- Other antibiotics
If you share what other medications you take (and your age and kidney problems, if any), I can help you think through the extra interaction risk.
When to get urgent help
Seek urgent care or emergency help if you get:
- Trouble breathing, face/lip/tongue swelling, or widespread hives (possible serious allergy to amoxicillin)
- Severe or persistent diarrhea with fever or blood
- Fainting or severe dizziness
Practical way to take them
If your prescriber/pharmacist told you to start both, follow their timing instructions. Many people take them on the same schedule (with or without food depending on your comfort), but confirm the exact directions on your prescriptions.
If you want, tell me:
1) the exact dose and form of Lyrica (e.g., 75 mg twice daily),
2) the reason you’re taking amoxicillin (tooth infection, strep throat, etc.), and
3) any other meds you take,
and I’ll tailor the guidance more closely.
