Secukinumab Dosage for Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis Treatment
Secukinumab is a biologic medication that comes in two forms, an intravenous injection (Secukinumab IV) and a pre-filled syringe (Secukinumab SC) for subcutaneous administration. The dosage for Secukinumab varies depending on the indication and weight of the patient.
Psoriasis Treatment
For moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, the recommended dosage is 300 mg administered via subcutaneous injection at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, followed by 300 mg every 4 weeks thereafter [1]. The Secukinumab IV formulation is used primarily for patients weighing 100 kg or more.
Psoriatic Arthritis Treatment
For active psoriatic arthritis, the recommended dosage is 300 mg administered via subcutaneous injection at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, followed by 300 mg every 4 weeks thereafter. Additionally, 400 mg may be administered as a loading dose at weeks 0, 1, and 2 [2].
Ankylosing Spondylitis Treatment
For adult patients with active ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dosage is 150 mg administered via subcutaneous injection at weeks 0 and 1, followed by 150 mg at weeks 2, 3, 4, and every 4 weeks thereafter [3].
Important Considerations
When adjusting the dosage of Secukinumab, it is essential to consider the individual patient's needs, weight, and potential interactions with other medications. Patients should follow the recommended dosing schedule and inform their healthcare provider of any changes or concerns.
